We hear this word a lot but what does flax really do?

-High in omega-3 fats. (those are the good kinds our body needs.)
-reduce heart disease and other deadly diseases.
-High in Fibre

What do you do with it?

-add it to salads
- put it in your yoghurt or cereal
- blend it into your smoothie

Interesting facts on flax

-It is the emblem of Norther Ireland, and appears on the back of a £ coin.
-National flower of belarus

Acai Berrys

This super berry is brought to us by the rainforests of Brazil. I’m sure most of us know what they taste like… (and if you don’t stop reading this right now and go get some acai juice) but do you know why they are such a great thing to eat?

Açaí pulp is jam packed with…

  • A high amount of antioxidants. Which are great. They fight aging. They have 10 times the amount the red grapes!
  • A whack of monounsaturated (healthy) fats, dietary fiber aid in cardiovascular and digestive health.
  • An amino acid complex in conjunction with valuable trace minerals. This combination is great for improving muscles.

Turkey Chili

This was such a nice way to warm up after a day of cold rainy-ness!

What you need:

3 Carrots cut into chunks 0pts
1 Giant onion (chunked) 0pts
4 Stalks of celery (Chunked) 0pts
2 400g Cans of diced tomatos 0pts
2 little cans of tomato paste  0pts
1 can of corn   4pts
3 garlic cloves 0pts
2 400g cans of red kidney beans 11pts
633g of minced turkey 32pts
1.5 packets of old el paso chili powers 1pts
And my special ingredient - 1tsp cinnamon.

1. Place turkey in the bottom of a large pot on stove top. Cook until starting to brown.
2. Add onions and garlic sauce. Wait till turkey is fully cooked
3. Add all other ingredients and stir. Once it is all mixed together let it simmer for about 30 minutes.

You can use your own spices, like cummon, chili, oregano… but I love the combination of the prepackaged one. They are higher in sodium, but there are some things I don’t like to compromise with. Just drink an extra glass of water tonight!

If you have extra points left, or want to splash up the dish grate some low fat cheese on top!

This batch made about 6 servings. (48/6=8 per serving.) I will be freezing lots and re-heating on days when I hate cooking!

Try and stay warm!

Garlic - One of my many loves

I was reading a food magazine the other day and it mentioned that garlic is a really beneficial food to eat. The article was really vague so I thought I would do some research. What an amazing food. I absolutely love garlic and now I will have even more of it!

Garlic lowers cholesterol and blood pressure. - Good if you have a history of heart problems

It prevents blood clots - No strokes for me!

Helps fight infections - got athletes foot..get garlic cream!

Improves your immune system - It is cold season right?

It can also be applied directly to the skin for acne and cold sores.

Mixing crushed cloves with warm water acts as a natural detoxifier.

And you can keep away vampires

Garlic Facts- In France during the dark times of the Great Plague. Gravediggers use to crush garlic and add it to wine to drink as a preventative measure.

It was also used in both world wars to prevent gangrene and infection on open wounds of injured soldiers.

Be cautious though… as with all foods to much can be a bad thing. Plus you don’t want to be to stinky!
